Natural Health for Natural Sensitives
Mêrfleur Wellness specializes in functional & holistic health care for Natural Sensitives.
Honor your natural sensitivity to build sustainable health.
Are you a Highly Sensitive Person?
then you’re a Natural Sensitive
-
A term coined by Jess, a Natural Sensitive is anyone whose sensitivity is present at birth. We have a unique permanent trait called Sensory Processing Sensitivity.
Those with this trait are commonly referred to as Highly Sensitive People.
This innate trait heightens our neurological reception and process of emotional, energetic, and physical details in our environment.
-
Jess has found that sensitivity is a common word in the health community at this time and felt the importance of differentiating between innate verse developed forms of sensitivity.
While holding great respect and gratitude for the HSP term’s originator, she also feels the term Natural Sensitive offers a more positive and clarifying tone than Highly Sensitive Person.
Jess’s understanding of natural sensitivity is built upon the foundational work of Dr. Elaine Aron and the continued work of researchers like Dr. Bianca Acevedo. Thus the term is a culmination of their research and Jess’s clinical and personal experience.
Try it on for size. See how it feels!

Only you can really determine this.
This is not meant to be a rigid label and is not a diagnosis needing medical attention. It is simply an understanding of your authentic nature that you are welcome to take on if you find it helpful.
Take the HSP quiz to see if the label resonates.
The key is to ask yourself – do my answers apply to who I am today only or would they also apply to who I was early in childhood, perhaps even as an infant?
This can help you determine if it’s nature or nuture, in other words, innate or developed over time as a result of health imbalances and trauma.
In all honesty, you could ruminate on this till the cows come home. At the end of the day, if this community supports you on your healing journey, whether your sensitivity is natural or developed, you are welcome here. If it’s developed, the only big difference is that you may find you recover much quicker and may not need these supports long-term.

Absolutely. Known as Sensory Processing Sensitivity in the scientific literature, our heightened brain and resulting nervous system response has been documented. Due to this being a relatively new discovery, most studies have occurred in the past two decades.
For easy reference, visit episode 47 of the Authentic Calm podcast with UCSB researcher Dr. Bianca Acevedo for a conversation about the research and direct links to studies in the show notes.
If you’re ready to dive in deep, check out Dr. Bianca’s thorough book on the Highly Sensitive Brain, also linked in the podcast show notes.

Yes & no. In our authentic state and natural environment, we are not more prone to dis-ease. Yet, we live in a society with structures and expectations that are not beneficial to our natural wiring.
Bottom line, if we live like the 80% of the population that doesn’t have Natural Sensitivity, then we will often find ourselves falling ill. We are highly impacted by our environment, deeply absorbing both the beneficial and the challenging.
It’s understood if your childhood environment was supportive of your unique needs and nature, then you most likely have a solid health foundation and will succeed easily in life, even surpassing those that are not sensitive.
If you had a childhood that did not honor or even allow your sensitivity, then it’s very likely you did not establish a strong health foundation. It’s never too late. It’s as simple as this - give yourself now, what you needed then!
The mission of MW is not to blame or play victim, but instead to understand our rare nature, own our unique needs, and choose to live differently.
Honoring your Natural Sensitivity is the healthiest act you can take and the foundational step to healing your body.

Not necessarily, but the route or style often looks different.
Our emotional intelligence allows us to process the many levels of conditioning in a very efficient manner, but often our approach to the physical body requires unique pacing. Therapies are often slower, tools are gentler, and awareness of the body’s subtle signals is key.
In order to make room for healing to occur, we almost always need to make strong changes to our daily schedule, level of self-imposed responsibility, and roles in relationships.
This work is Jess’ love and specialty.
